There is no need to worry about positioning of first teeth (milk teeth) in children. Gaps between these teeth are a sign of natural development. Stringent contact as in adult teeth may be a sign of future lack of space and potential irregularities. Permanent teeth start coming out around age 6-7, but generally no problems are observed until incisor teeth start coming out around 7-9 ages.
All milk teeth must be kept until replaced by permanent teeth. Even if your dentist suggests seeing an orthodontist at an early age, this does not necessarily mean treatment should start early. Many careful dentists wish to make sure all potential problems are under control and ideal treatment period is not missed.
While jaw problems in children need to be addressed in earlier ages, in cases where only teeth are irregular, there is sufficient time for treatment. Even adult teeth can be moved; therefore, there is no time out for this treatment. However, older age may prolong treatment time and make the process slightly more difficult. Still, age is not as important a factor as healthy tooth support tissue.
