We know that tooth cavities do not heal spontaneously and destroyed texture will not be repaired. Therefore, the decayed tooth has to be filled. Here is how simple cavities, which have not extended to root of tooth, are treated:
Enamel and dentin have really hard structures. When cleaning the cavity, these layers need to be removed. Cavities are cleaned with special drills. Today, modern drill heads are made of diamond or tungsten steel. These drill heads are attached on sensitive high-speed motors with 300.000 rpm. While in use, drill head rotates 5000 times each second (or count to 2).
There is no vibration during the rotation. May cause some pain at varying levels, as dentin surface is sensitive. Local anaesthesia can be a remedy to that and help get tooth fillings without feeling any kind of pain. Following relevant specifications, filling material is applied to the cavity, and process is completed.
